Briere has to, because he doesn't have Lupul's shot. If a guy like Lupul (similar to Carter and Gagne, in fact) is going into the ****, so to speak, he's giving up one of his greatest assets offensively (his shot). It's a give and take thing...but it is ever interesting how style seems to count over substance in a lot of respects.
Guy put together back-to-back 25+ seasons (if you account for pro-rating with the Hatcher-hit injury). That's not exactly easy in the NHL.
Note: Briere is also just a better offensive player all around when he's healthy.
