After this season, both Dan Cloutier and Martin Biron become RFAs.
a) Cloutier's troubled past, with both inconsistency and injury;
b) Auld will split time with the other Canucks goalie in 2005/06
c) Stemming from that, Cloutier gets rusty quickly, and his confidence fades quickly as well when not given the majority of games
d) Buffalo has both Noronen and Miller in the works
Vancouver could have some interest in acquiring Biron's rights, to split time with Auld. Assuming the new CBA gives some concessions to the players and UFA age is lowered to 29, Biron will have his rights held for two seasons by Vancouver, which is pretty ideal for Vancouver's side.
Obviously, Buffalo would not be interested in Cloutier - we'd send him off somewhere else. From what I understand, Buffalo needs defensemen with the likely departure of Zhitnik at hand. I know this doesn't exactly fill the hole Zhitnik leaves, and Jillson's presence may make him redundant, but:
To VAN: The rights to Martin Biron
To BUF: The rights to Brent Sopel
