Lighter/summer weight outer socks

The outer hockey sweater socks that go over one's shin pads are fine when it is cold outside, and so is the rink.

However, with the weather starting to warm up, my local rink is covered only by a bubble and while they manage to keep the ice surface solid, it is noticeably warmer in the rink if it is warm outside.

So, I'm looking for something lighter in weight than the typical sweater sock, and found mesh hockey socks online:

Are these a reasonable option to using the heavy sweater socks? Or is there something better?
