EVIL MONKEYS LEVEL SERIES ON CONTROVERSIAL CALL

MANITOBA BISONS 1
ALBERTA GOLDEN BEARS 2

(Best-of-three series tied 1-1)
|> [LEAGUESTAT SUMMARY] ~ [SCORER'S SHEET] ~ CIS BOXSCORE - not posted

The Bisons had the Evil Monkeys right where they wanted them but could not put them away. I saw the game via the internet on SSN. I thought the game was fairly evenly played and in the end Alberta cashed in on their breaks better.

Ian Duval gave the Herd a lead 7:22 into the 2nd period, and the Bisons had a decisive edge in play at that time. However, about 8 minutes later Primate Eric Hunter dumped one onto the net from an extreme angle and it snuck past Steve Christie to level the score.

After some to-and-fro action in the 3rd period, Hunter took a high sticking penalty. Alberta quickly took a too-many-men penalty and the Bisons were on the PP. However, an interference penalty was called on Tyler Dittmer on what was a bit of a dive. The Bisons had a few seconds of one-man advantage left and almost scored. But, as luck would have it, Alberta's Sean Ringrose around the rosie zipped home a rebound to give the Evil Monkeys their first lead of the night. With just over 3 minutes left another penalty was called on Nolan Waker which killed most of the remaining time.

Don't forget, game 3 can been on-line Sunday at 8:00 CDT HERE.

OTHER MEDIA STORIES: OUT EAST:

  • MCGILL REDMEN 3
    LAKEHEAD THUNDERWOLVES 1

    |> [CIS STORY] ~ [CIS BOXSCORE]

The OUA holds a one-game final for the Queen's Cup between the winners of the East and West Conferences. Lakehead hosted before a sell-out crowd. I saw a good portion of the game and was disappointed with Lakehead and their highly touted offence. Despite trailing going into the 3rd period, they mustered only 12 shots in the 3rd, and no goals. The result means Lakehead can be seeded no higher than 4th at the nationals. The McGilligutties are guaranteed a top 3 seed.

    WESTERN ONTARIO MUSTANGS 4
    UQTR PATRIOTES 5

    |> [CIS STORY] ~ [CIS BOXSCORE]

The Urban Cowboys blew this one. The OUA gets two national berths, plus Lakehead as host. So since Lakehead also won the OUA West, a one-game playoff between conference runners-up was held for a spot in the nationals. The Urban Cowboys appeared to have the game in the bag, up 4-2 with 90 seconds left. But UQTR scored 3 goals in 31 seconds to send the Urban Cowboys packing. Good riddance. They have been choking so bad in the second half they don't deserve a spot at the nationals.
