Loss of confidence in right outside edge

I've been on hiatus from hockey for a few years, and about one year ago I severely broke my ankle. I can run and do all off-ice activities without a problem.

I'm trying to get back into hockey, but it seems I don't have the confidence in my ankle to use the edges on that foot properly. Has anybody else recovered from a similar injury? My fibula is reinforced with 8 screws and 2 metal rods - would that be affecting my range of motion?

I guess the most important question is - am I having these difficulties because I haven't been skating for a while, or because my ankle can't handle it?
