An expansion team named the Minnesota Wild was the second worst team in the NHL's Western Conference. The Anaheim Mighty Ducks were the worst, a fitting fate for a team named after a miserable movie.

And the Portland Oregon Sports Authority launched an aggressive 12-week campaign to gauge public interest in hockey. NHL 2 Portland lasted nine months.
