Let's go point by point on this one.
Size: 6-2 188 per USCHO.com. He will gain some muscle over the summer so conservatively 190. 6'2" 190lbs Still looked a little skinny so he can put on more weight.
Defense: Wisconsin plays a defensive game and that's how Geoffrion was trained. Doesn't also hurt to have had 3 generations of NHL talent in the gene pool and dinner table. Just ask Ryan Suter about that.
Skating: The crappy ice didn't help in Detroit but fact is that he looked like he could keep up with the other players on Wisconsin.....On BC, that's another story.
Positional hockey: Oh yeah. When the puck was loose he always seemed to be present to pick it up.
Faceoffs: Very strong. If that can translate to the NHL.....whoh momma.
Fact is the skillsets shown in College might just translate to Geoffrion becoming a 2nd 3rd line player. You know the ones the fanbase usually *****es and whines about because Trotz is putting a lower level talent on a scoring line. We could be talking AT BEST, a Perrault level faceoff man with a big body, a touch of snarl in his personality, sound defensively, with a scoring touch. I could see him as a Smithson/Ward replacement.
Story time: When the draft was going on I was at the arena and I overheard some people talking about Blake. It was fussing and informal and I snuck in and asked, "Are you Blake's family?" They were and we talked about this and the speculation was either Montreal or Nashville. Then the first round ended and we all left the arena. I went home and heard on the radio Geoffrion was drafted in the second round by Nashville. I thought they over drafted him and this could blow up in Nashville's face.
No one, I repeat, NO ONE thought Geoffrion was a Hobey Baker level talent. As the math goes, only 30% of the 2nd rounders make the NHL and I honestly thought Blake would be one of the 70%. Now, I think it's quite possible after watching the game than he could be 50/50 to make the club out of camp. No, I am not joking. Based on the roster and the cap situation, I think he will be in Milwaukee his first year as the possible first call up. But in 2 years when Smithson and Ward's contracts are up I think he will make the Preds.
