Ribeiro was a more mature player and I would say a better playmaker as well at that age. I watched him quite a bit -- especially in training camp -- right before he jumped into the AHL, and he was very strong in the rookie tournament & camp. He also made it to the WJC and impressed through those camps.

On the other hand, Locke (from what I've heard) had trouble keeping up to the pace of the WJC camp, definitely had trouble with the more mature players at the rookie tournament, and is even smaller than Ribeiro. Didn't even get a look at the Habs main camp, when Ribeiro was one of the last cuts if memory serves me right.

This isn't to say I think Ribeiro's the better player between the two, but at the same age I believe Ribeiro was superior.
