get through this year by adding kovalchuk and subtracting jokinen, redden, lisin, brashear, voros, etc.

get through next year by subtracting Rozsival and extending our RFAs, while adding McDonagh.

The year after, Drury is off the books, and we are free to do what we want.

the whole key here though is to stay away from free agency, build around the big free agents/contracts we already have from within.

so, lets say, hypothetically, this year you would have something like...

Dubi Christensen Gabby
Kovalchuk Drury Cally
Avery Anisimov Prospal
Prust Boyle Shelley

Staal Girardi
Rozsival MDZ
Gilroy Sanguinetti/Sauer/Cheap UFA

then next year you can go with something along the lines of..

Dubi Anisimov Gabby
Kovalchuk Drury Cally
Avery Stepan Grachev
Prust Boyle Weise/Byers/whoever

Staal Girardi
MDZ McDonagh
Sanguinetti Sauer/UFA

and in 2 years you can have...

Dubi Anisimov Gabby
Kovalchuk Stepan Cally
Kreider Johansen/Burmistrov Grachev
Pick your 4th line

Staal Girardi
MDZ McDonagh
Sanguinetti Sauer/UFA/Another young prospect
Your theory is good. But those projected lineups are brutal.

This is contingent on Kovalchuk signings for about Gaborik-money. And him wanting to come here. Remember we have Avery. Kovalchuk </3 Avery.
