left wing lock is where one winger (usually the left winger) is on the blue line and responsible for a third of the ice. The defense is responsible for the other two-thirds. you still have two forcheckers, just not as agressive. It limits odd man rushes and forces a team to dump and chase. chicago is a good puck possesion team, so the old lock wcould work against them, but you sacrifice a good bit of offence. against a good grinding team, this type of defense isn't that effective becasue they chip and rush. think of it like a 2-3 zone in basketball if you want.
