Yes there was a reason, Chicago won the series against Calgary in 6 games, not 7 games. Please find me a recent example in which a team won their series in less than 7 games and only got a 1 day break until the next round.

The Ottawa-Anaheim series was the ultimate example. They made Ottawa sit 8 days in June. There was no point even playing the final. Anaheim I believe had 3 days off (not 1).
IIRC, that had more to do with lining up for their TV schedule. Also, Anaheim beat Detroit in 6 games, not 7, and deserved at least 2 days off.
