I don't think you understand.

In 01-02, Pronger had 5:14 of ice time on the PP. So whatever was the "1st unit"... HE WAS ON IT!
The true 2nd unit players in St.Louis averaged 3:00 min/game on the PP.
Just to put 5:14 in perespective... do you know how many Ottawa players have had 5:14 on the PP/ game in total in the past 3 years? .... z-e-r-o (4:44 was tops)

I can't find ice time breakdowns beyond 01-02, but this production does not suggest 2nd unit PP time:

1998-99 = 25 PP points
1999-00 = 26 PP points
2000-01 = 27 PP points
2001- 28 PP points
2002-03 = *5 GP
2003-04 = 31 PP points

Here's the thing... it's almost impossible for a 2nd unit forward to consistently put up 20+ PP points. They may do it once every couple of years, but that's about it.
For a defenseman to put up 20+ points consistently on the 2nd unit, we go from "almost mpossible" to "when he!! freezes over".

+/- isn't a "pairing stat", it's a team related stat and even then, ice time can be manipulated so that weak defensive players never get into troublesome situations.
Jackman's and Markov's +/- should not be compared. All the comparison will tell you is that Montreal was terrible.
