Warming up on an stationary bike or doing a little jogging is the best way. You need to clear the lactic acid out of the muscles of your legs to avoid getting that heavy feeling in your legs.
Thats why if you ever watch the Tour De France you will see the racers will warm up on a stationary bike just before they race.
