You said "I've only been skating", not, "I've only been ice skating". Obviously, if you were a very high level roller player, it could translate much quicker.

Most likely, it's a bad or dull edge. Whenever I run into this problem, it's a sign my skates haven't been sharpened in way too long. It could also possibly be a boot that is too soft for your weight (if you're a very big guy and it happens on both feet) or even bad ice. A mismounted holder could cause it, but it's unlikely you would only experience this problem as a result.
