The number is 45 million, that is the self imposed cap. Unless Poile has permission from ownership to go over this then he's not going to. The real problem is that Nashville is pretty close to the mid level number with the current players coming up and Semin will definitely push that over.

Its funny how the salary cap has changed the entire player value structure of the league.
Normally it would be fine if Nash had a limit. The Caps, given their recent sellouts, wouldn't mind taking on additional salary if they could. They just can't. Heck they are paying Nylander like $5 million to play overseas and will be right up at the cap next year too.
The same reasons Washington wouldn't do the deal would therefore be the same reasons Nashville woudln't.
