Sure, the ultimate goal is to win the cup, its the same for every team. But were discussing how to build a team to win the cup and to do that, you need to have a talented core group of players.
We tried buying a team to win one and it didn't happen.
We've tried time and time again trading away our youth either through draft picks (ray borque is one of many wasted picks that would have been a great place to start) or young talent to bring in "legitimate stars" or other established veterans and we have won a total of ZERO cups by doing so.
We finally have most of a very solid core, not elite level but very solid. Now, the question at hand AND the title of this thread "Kovalchuk, how much is too much?" is what we are debating.
Kopi fan, no response? If we sign Kopi and 2 dmen (for a total of $2.5) we are over the cap by over $3m and that will cost us more than just cash to remedy.
It isn't something that goes away if you ignore it, its an actual problem, just ask the hawks.
