The final 4 teams all have cap issues this off season. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone in the cap era. You have to be up against the cap if you want to compete for the cup.
Teams with cap space didn't make the playoffs or left very quickly.
While I agree with some of what you are saying, I must point out that next year is not going to be the Kings year to make a run at the cup. They still don't have a proven goalie, they need help on defense and they need a weapon. Two of those may be addressed by UFA or trade, however; the goalie issue can not. I do hope that Bernier is all we dream he can be and more. I just don't think that 2010-2011 the Kings will win the cup. It is great to put all your hopes into one year and forget the future exists, but the last thing I want is for the team to miss the cup and get dismantled because they don't have the cap space to keep anyone. Once they add a few more pieces then it will be time to roll the dice.
