Brooklyn-born Alan Seewald, who trained Uptowncharleybrown in his four starts, died suddenly in his sleep on April 12. The night before, Seewald had watched his beloved New York Rangers miss the NHL playoffs by losing in a shootout to the Philadelphia Flyers on the last day of the regular season.

"He was such a die-hard New York Ranger fan," Hutt said. "That day before they played the Flyers, Alan was giving smack to all the jockeys and trainers from Philly. Right before that game started, I asked Alan, 'What are you going to do if the Rangers lose?' He smiled and said, 'I won't go to work tomorrow.' And he died that night."
