Yes, definitely invest in a jock and cup (they usually come together). The jock should have velcro tabs or garter belt clips on it to keep your hockey socks up. Otherwise you have all the stuff needed.

As for how the gear all goes on, practice at home a few times. Plenty of people will tell you their specific order but that doesn't mean your gear will go on the same exact way. Do it a few times so you get an idea of how it works and if you need to change anything. I probably would have looked hilarious in the locker room if I never did a test run at home and just followed the first order posted on one of these threads.

Personally, my order is:
Jock
Pants
Socks, slid up to my thighs
Skates, then bunch socks on top of skates
Shin Guards, over tongue and laces of skates
(Shin guard straps to keep shin guards secure, optional. You really should use tape or straps to secure shin pads)
Pull socks up to cover shins
Pull pants down and attach socks to jock
Pants up, tie them up
Shoulder Pads
Elbow Pads
Slash guards (on wrists)
Helmet
Gloves
