Ok, a medical question...
The other day I got out on the ice for the first time at stick&puck (hooray!) fulfilling a lifelong dream and generally confirming everything I thought about the awesomeness of playing hockey.
The next day, however, I noticed some swelling at the base of my abdomen and a small knot under the skin. It didn't hurt at all really, just something new that I had not noticed before. Looked it up on webmd.com and I think I have a sports hernia.
Bear in mind I have a little tyke at home that likes to be carried, so this may not be hockey-related.
Anyway, has anyone else experienced this? Is surgery absolutely necessary? How long do I stay off skates? Is it a recurring problem?
To be honest I'd like to avoid surgery, but I'd also like to avoid any complications from playing on this sort of injury...
