He'll get his money, this is his money contract and being behind Weber and Suter he didn't play as a No. 2 defenseman here, but will be compensated as one. I'm thinking unless he gets a cap-friendly lifetime deal that he will be around $4-$4.5 mil annually...

One of the biggest problems with signing Hamhuis and it was apparent in his last contract negotiation too was that he is hardcore NHLPA union loyal and feels it's his responsibility to get the biggest contract he can to help others get bigger contracts around the league as a result. He's already said this summer on the radio up in Vancouver that he will not take a discount to go anywhere, so...Holmgren is going to have his hands full and to sign him will likely be forced to trade a player or two to compensate...
