Williams - 1 year until RFA
Klassen - 1 year until RFA
Dowzak - 1 year until RFA

There will definitely be some movement here...
Dowzak, Klassen and Pashnin are not much, and probably won't get a contract next year anyway (Pashnin never).

Williams has one year to prove that he can put all his tools together. I like him, but this is his make it or break it year, and I doubt he does it both because of him and because the Rangers won't give him much of an opportunity to play, even in Hartford.

Potter likely won't get re-signed either. His max potential is as a #7 defenseman. The kid is better off going to another team, one with thin defense. This would alow him to collect an NHL salary for sitting in the press box 60 games and playing 6 minutes a game the other 22 games. But he has no future on the Rangers.

Redden will go down to minors. Rosie won't get re-signed, and I hope he will get traded at this year's deadline. With just one year to go in his contract at this point, he will have real value to a team looking for a veteran defenseman.

So here's what's left:

1. Gilroy
2. MDZ
3. Girardi
4. Staal
5. Sanguinetti
6. Kundratek
7. Sauer
8. McD
9. Valentenko

So we have 4 NHLers and 5 legit prospects. For Sauer, it's his last year to prove that he is a real NHLer. The kid is already 23 years old. If he won't take a further step forward, he will go into the Potter category.

Same for Kundratek. If he has a slow year, he's also off.

So that leaves us with 7, except we can lose Gilroy if he doesn't improve next year and the Rangers don't want him, or if he improves a lot and many other teams want him. Alternatively, Valentenko or Sanger can fail to make it.

And that's 6.

Good number, but not the plethora it looks like when you just list all the prospects.
