Article on McNelly, but with a tidbit at the end that indicates what Gillis is thinking.

Quote:
At least he will fit right in with the Canucks stable of young defencemen who are offensive-minded and college educated. The list includes Evan Oberg, who went to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Kevin Connauton, a Western Michigan University alum, and Chris Tanev, who was just signed out of the Rochester Institute of Technology.
"Because McNally is full committed to Harvard teams passed on him and he dropped down," Gillis said. "With the number of young defencemen we have, we didn't think it was a hindrance.
"We want him to stay in Harvard we want smart kids.

"We think he has a tremendous amount of potential. And now we have enough offensive defencemen and we can move into another category."
He wanted tough defensive D-man at that point, and Polasek was probably too good of a two-way, edgy blueliner to pass up, so with the last pick, he selected a late-blooming Hannay.
