This may be the first time I agree with Saywut. Picking Granlund over Fowler or Gormley changed the game.

Our time to trade Burns was pre-draft, and it is now over. There is no high-talent Dman in the entire system. We had Leddy, but we traded him. And Cuma and Scandella look like 2nd pairing, 30 point Dmen at best. Considering Dmen take 4-5 years to develop after drafting, if we move Burns, we will have a massive talent hole on our blueline. Taking Fowler or Gormley could have changed things.

Granlund is actually probably 2 seasons away from the NHL. One in Finland. One in the AHL. Or two in Finland. That means we only need a UFA top-6 center for 2 seasons. Not to mention Wellman. Who could be huge if he pans out. 2 seasons from now, we might have Granlund, Wellman, and Gillies to add to Koivu, Havlat, and Lats, not to mention some good cap space for a UFA forward.

The plan right now is to build for this team two to three seasons from now. Hopefully, Fletcher can bring in 1-2 top-6 forwards in that time (whether by somebody developing, UFA, or trade).
