Brashear falls under the 35+ rule. If he's playing in Hartford, he will count 1.3 mil against our cap. If he retires or is bought out, he will count 1.4 mil.
Brashear is due to make 1.3 mil in actual salary. Buying him out will reduce that to 867k but it will not affect his cap hit.
Voros and Rissmiller both have 1 mil cap hits. Buying them out would reduce their cap hits to 333k each. We would therefore save 1.333 mil against the cap during the summer. But Rissmiller wasn't going to be on the team anyway, so the actual savings during the season would only be 333K. Voros' replacement will cost more than that and we'd still carry a 667k cap hit for Voros and Rissmiller next year.
Buying them out would only make sense if Sather needs an extra 1.3 mil in extra cap space to not go over the summer cap. I seriously hope that's not the case.
My head hurts
. So what's the best interest of the Rangers?
