Just for fun, I’ll throw another name into the hat.
The agent for Swedish World Championship forward Niklas Persson told a Swedish newspaper yesterday that Persson has agreed to a NHL contract. However, the agent declined to name the NHL team saying they would let the NHL team make the announcement. After the World’s it was rumored that 4 or 5 NHL teams had inquired about Persson. At that time Chicago supposedly had the inside track.
In a bit more serious vein, I agree with SLake completely. I know it is an option – and maybe even an attractive one – but for a team so dependent on developing its own players I’d be shocked and hate it if Poile opened up the door to RFA offer sheets. It seems GMs restrain themselves from going that route. But if the Preds made an offer, I’d say the gloves would come off. And that is one battle I can’t see the Preds coming out on the winning side of in the long run. If RFA offer sheets became commonplace I could see that gutting the Preds.
