Doubt he goes to re-entry, Oilers don't want to be responsible half the bill. The Oilers have likely received offers where they take a bad contract back. So they put him on waivers with the hopes a team is desperate enough to grab him because they missed out on the top tier of UFAs. If that doesn't happen, they explore those bad contracts deals again.
