This is completely specious reasoning. Ron Wilson coached Alex Steen for a grand total of 20 games when he first took over the club before Steen was traded. As for Stempniak, he put up nearly identical numbers in both of his terrible years in Toronto that he did for his last season in St. Louis. The play of either of these guys in Toronto had little, if anything, to do with Ron Wilson.

Stempniak went on a serious streak at the end of last year, but still ended up with less than 50 points and completely disappeared in the playoffs. I don't want to call the guy a fluke, but between his time in Toronto and his time on Phoenix his shooting % increased from 8.5% (his average over the previous 4 seasons) to a superhuman 29.2%. Anybody who thinks he's going to be replicating his 14 goals in 18 games stretch had better have their head examined, as should any GM that considers giving him $3M+
