Ryan is much more plausible than Kovy to the Flyers, or Kovy to the Kings and LA sending the Flyers a quarter of its team. Also very possible the Flyers asked Gagne to waive his NTC so that other teams (like the Ducks) would not be able to demand premiums because Carter is the only big-contract forward the Flyers could deal.
Having Gagne waive sends a message that anyone with a NTC could be on the move from Philly, because if the loyal vet can go, so could a Briere or Hartnell. This way the Ducks can't hold Homer over a barrel because Carter is the only forward they could move.
This scenario makes Homer appear very smart, or at least someone in the front office is showing intelligence.
Here's hoping that's the case and that if Gagne moves, it's for pieces, not a salary dump.
