That first trade is straight some faggy Leafs fan site and should be disregarded. Hmmm, top-line forward in the tail end of his prime and a solid young defender for an aging offensive blue liner who obviously does not command anything CLOSE to the trade value Leafs fans and wishful-thinking biased sportswriters claim ... PASS.

Gagne for Hickey, that's not horrible, not at all. Hickey was an off-the-board pick and while he doesn't scream superstar he will be a solid #2 DMan and he possesses solid intangibles, the kid is going to be a winner. That seems like a good deal for both teams, especially if L.A. is bent on hanging onto Jack Johnson. Gagne would fit their identity better than Kovalchuk, cost about half as much and not necessarily require a multi-year commitment. Face it, we are not getting Bernier, we probably don't want Quick (especially not as a buy-high guy), Simmonds is not getting moved unless we overpay (that was clear in the LA-Atlanta trade talks last year), and any trade where we lose Gagne AND Carter is an f'ing LOSER for Philly.
