how about just connecting the dots, rather than expecting the GM to spell everything out for you?
Raymond hits UFA status in 3 yrs, and signed him to a 2yr contract... makes sense to me... similar to what he did with Bernier. He never actually came out and said that he signed Bernier to 2 yrs last season, just so he would get to RFA status instead of UFA status, but, if you connect the dots, it makes sense, doesn't it?
if you're expecting Gillis to come out and break down the motivation behind all his moves, you're going to be disappointed... it's not his job to do so.
In fact, have we EVER from any GM that has signed any contract, give reasoning behind the term they give the players? I know Gillis had to justify Luongo's term, being 12 years, but did he tell us why Burrows got 4yrs? or Samuelsson 3yrs, or the Sedins signed for 5, or Kesler to 6?
do we ever get reasoning on term from any GM, when it's not an outrageous contract that required that reasoning, as was the case with Luongo?
