"Luke is a good prospect in the realm that he's going to get a chance to develop his talents. To be a tough guy in the National Hockey League he's got what you need, which is a willingness to combat and great size and great strength," said Stars coach Marc Crawford.
"He looks to be a good player too," said Barch. "These days you can't have just one aspect of the game, you've got to be able to play."
Crawford said he likes what he has seen from Gazdic, and believes where a tough player like Gazdic can really carve out a role is by becoming a force on the forecheck.
"Intimidation isn't done just pugilistically, it's mostly done on the forecheck by getting in and being a disturbing presence. Those are the areas where he needs to keep working," said Crawford. "He's got decent speed, but it's got to improve. He's got good reads on the forecheck, and they've got to improve. His ability with the puck is OK, but it's got to improve.
"No matter who you are, you've got to be responsible defensively. That's always a big step for a player coming out of juniors or a college program. Their play away from the puck is so, so important in giving them the opportunity to get more ice time. "
