With all due respect, I don't believe that for a minute. There's being a shell of your former self, and there's being a completely different player.
There were stretches of time when Avery didn't even play like the Avery of old. Being ineffective is one thing, but trying to take on another style of play is another. I don't know how much of it has to do with his reputation with referees and his ability to get away with the little things or how much it has to do with Tortorella and telling Avery to cut the ****.
At the very least, I think we both agree that Avery will be benched if he can't bring that intensity and grit that we know he can and if he isn't putting points up.
