What exactly are you trying to do, lose weight? Lifting is actually the best caloric burn/time spent, much better than cardio which often uses alot of your body's energy for respiration rather than metabolism. If you just want to work your upper body and lose weight I would suggest doing an upper body super set type workout (high energy, build muscle and do cardio at the same time, essentially). That P90x thing sounds like it would accomplish a similiar thing as well.
