Nature of the beast in "non-contact" leagues. There's no such thing as non-contact hockey, except maybe the upper level roller hockey leagues, heh.

On top of shoulder pads I'd say you look into taking care of your muscles after games. Something with Whey protein works. Someone also mentioned stretching, flexibility is so important for general health, let alone hockey.
