CGC: They failed us.

I take utter glee with Seth becoming one of the bloggers for On the Forecheck. One: Seth deserves it. Two: The mainstream media of Nashville has failed the fanbase of Nashville with their lack of information. With Twitter and the internet. The hockey information we crave which would have been corralled by borders. There is a TSN.CA, there is the blogosphere of the Nashville Predators. There is information to be mined and our industrious fans find it.

Pure and simple, ESPN won't cover anything that does not benefit their ratings and they do not have the TV contracts for the NHL. They are transparently pathetic. They increased their coverage of the NHL when they realized that the NBA AND the NFL might have a lockout in the same year and strike/lockout coverage is not a rating grabber. BUT, when they got the hint they are not the only fish in the pond with the NBC/Comcast merger, they switched their focus on college football and International Soccer.

Part of me likes it that way. ESPN is like radiation poisoning, the better you feel, the sicker you really are. ESPN sucks the joy out of games and even if you have a HINT of controversy, they will pump it up out of proportions. There is no balance. ESPN puts the fanatical in fans. Hockey is a visual medium, hockey games suck on the radio but with visuals the sport is phenomenal. Because of video streaming and higher speed internet, the NHL can provide you what you need, video of games to fill your fix.

The NHL can evolve with the changing times. Traditional media is drowning in the tar pits when the rest of the world is growing legs and breathing air.
