All I can say is that if you think Franson played just as well as Klein last year and would have handled having that many minutes, you must have been watching a different game than me. I like Franson and think he's a good player and going to get better, especially if he works on his skating, but Klein is a couple of years ahead of him in development and it shows.

Franson is the 6th defenseman. If someone gets passed on the depth chart, it's going to be him. Particularly because the defenseman most likely to be ready to move up from the minors, Blum, is also an offensive-minded player. I think if Franson gets signed and comes into camp ready to play, he'll be able to keep his spot on the roster. I think it's his spot unless someone else comes into camp and blows the doors off everyone else. But if he were to try to hold out for a better deal and missed camp ... that would just not be very smart.
