Blue Jackets pick up Green Staff


The Columbus Blue Jackets have picked up forward Travis Green in the NHL waiver draft, which was held Friday.

Green, who spent two years in Toronto, was place on waivers earlier this week along with forward Robert Reichel.

Green's departure will free up $1.6 million in salary from the Leafs' payroll.

In return, the Maple Leafs selected forward Petr Tenkrat, an unsigned, Group II restricted free agent, whom Columbus was forced to expose after taking Green.

Green was drafted by New York Islanders in 1989 (23rd overall) and spent time in Anaheim and Phoenix before coming to Toronto. In 2002-03, Green recorded 12 goals and 12 assists in 75 games.

Meanwhile, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks selected defenseman Todd Simpson from the Phoenix Coyotes.
