They don't improve your credit score. If you want a bank to loan you money for something like a house or a car, you have to have a good credit score. From what I can tell, you need to borrow money and then pay it back in order to improve your credit score. If you move through life without going into debt, you will not have a sufficient credit history to justify anyone loaning you any money in the future.
