This is why I believe Lombardi should look to trade Johnson for Edmonton's 1st round pick in 2011 (which might be #3 overall). There are a couple of guys there who would look very good in our top 6 (Sean Couturier, etc.).
Meanwhile, we have too many defensive prospects good enough to make the team.
I say trade JJ while his stock is high, high, high!!! If we can get Edmonton's 1st and Penner, I say "done deal".

After Toronto got burned by dealing off their 1st prematurely, I doubt Edmonton would have the brass to pull off that type of deal.
Plus it's always a that Edmonton will be just as bad next year. Always find this mildly amazing, but Colorado managed to obtain the Kings', Sharks', and Bruins' 1st round picks in 1998. In 1997, those three teams chose 1-2-3. But each of those three teams rebounded and the Avs ended up without a top 10 pick.
The vibe next year seems to be that 2011 is an average/below average draft year. I'm not sure I'd take that gamble.
We all make fun of the Burke for giving up the picks for Kessel, but I still think it was a reasonable gamble. If the Leafs pick had just even been #3, Kessel for Gudbranson, Knight, and a future 1st doesn't sound awful.
