Another factor too that I forgot to mention is that that hockey isn't a weather dependent sport unlike the many other sport people like to play in soccer, baseball, football and at least park basketball.

It could be hot as hell or cold as hell, dry or wet outside and it don't matter. If you've got a weekly game or weekly drop in group, you can have consistency with your hobby. So that's why I play year-round because it's one of the few hobbies I have the ability to be consistent with.

There's nothing more worse than having an itch to play a game (me: park basketball, paintball or go snowboarding) and to not be able to satisfy that itch that day due to weather.
