I have been growing sick of this trend for some time and what happened today made me angry. What ever happened to fact checking? I understand that it may have been believable as Fletcher thought it was true, but quickly bustling to tweet what you heard, without verifying the info first is irresponsible.

Cox's article about "what really happened" does nothing to make this OK. His tweet was made so he could inflate his own ego. He is so in the loop and knows so many important hockey people that he is the first to know of Pat Burns' passing.

This is definitely the problem with all news, especially sports news. It is a popularity contest between so-called journalists, trying to prove that they are buddies with more people than everyone else. It's like a sad high school drama for grown men.
