Lindenwood University Ice Hockey

Blues fan and general St. Louis area hockey fans might find this interesting. Lindenwood University men’s ice hockey opens the 2010-11 season as back-to-back defending ACHA DI Champions. The season kicks off the season with a home series against Davenport University at the LU Ice Arena in Wentzville Friday 9/24/10 7:30pm, Saturday 9/25/10 at 4:00pm. Friday night’s game includes raising the National Championship banner ceremony before the scheduled 7:30 puck drop.

It will also be the first game under new head coach and ex Blues defenseman Rick Zombo. Zombo previously served as the assistant coach/defensive coach for the past two seasons under head coach, Derek Schaub, who left the team after last season to coach the LU Lions Lacrosse team.

Scouting Lindenwood:
2008, 2009 ACHA Division I National Champions, League: Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL). Lindenwood enters the game with a 84-9 record over the past two seasons. The Lions come into the contest on a 9-game winning streak, the last loss: 3-4 vs. Illinois in a controversial shootout goal.

Scouting Davenport:
Davenport University is an NAIA school of 12,000 with its main campus outside of Grand Rapids in Caledonia Township, Kent County, Michigan The DU Ice Hockey program has been transitioning to ACHA DI for the past few seasons, during that period DU recorded three straight ACHA DII Championships. The 2010-11 season is the program’s first season as a ACHA DI team and first in the new all-Michigan, Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL). The DU Panthers enter the series after a 2 game series against ACHA DII Central Michigan. DU won the series 2 games to none and outscored the Chippewas 20-1.
