Also, where does he fit in right now in this organization? Leaving Michigan a year early to play on the third or fourth line in Hartford? Nah. Next year if/when he signs he won't have a ton of other players to compete with even in the big club. Byers and Dupont will most likely be gone, Kennedy, Boyle, Prospal, etc should be gone.

Going to back to Michigan will give him the opportunity to get a college degree, make a run at a national title, and to show skills to other NHL teams in case Hagelin doesn't want to sign with the Rangers (I believe Gordie Clark said they really want this kid after he graduates).
