This is the essecence of my point exactly. Pronger is the type of player who really deserves the "franchise" label. When he is on, he is like a one-man team. He'll totally dominate the other team physically, and then control the puck and generate all the offense (either directly, or by cueing the counterattack).

Early in his career, he drew comparisons to Larry Robinson. I honestly think that, as his best, he is close to being that level.


I still don't think Pronger, Blake, and Lidstrom equal the top dmen of the late seventies and early eighties (Potvin, Robinson, Salming, and Park) but that is another issue.
