Lindenwood University Women’s Hockey Home Opener this weekend for a Saturday-Sunday series. 10/16/10 at 7pm and 10/17/10 at 12pm.

Lindenwood Lady Lions return home to the LU Ice Arena in Wentzville after a five game Big 10 road trip to start the 2010-11 season. LU traveled to State College, PA to take on Penn State, another program that will move to the NCAA in 2012. The Lady Lions swept PSU in the three game series with 2-0, 6-1, and 2-1 wins. Kayetoinette Stock (JR) picked up the first shutout of the season stopping all 17 Nittany Lion shots on Friday night’s game.

Last weekend the Lady Lions visited Michigan State in a two game series that was a rematch of the 2010 National Championship Game in which LU came out on top 2-0. After a scoreless first period last Saturday the Spartans scored in the second period on the power play. Lindenwood followed by two even strength goals in the second period but MSU scored two unanswered goals, a tying goal in the third and OT goal. Despite the 2-3 OT loss LU pounded the Spartan Net with 66 shots. The Lady Lions responded last Sunday by scoring two goals in the first period and adding another in the third. To win 3-2 and split the weekend.

Robert Morris comes into the series after opening the 2010-11 season on a Canadian road trip (9/22-9/25/10). Losing three straight games to CIS opponents: University of Western Ontario, University of Guelph, and York University. The road trip included a 1-13 loss to the Guelph Gryphons, RMU was out shot 4-55. Robert Morris came away with a 1-6 loss against the York Lions, their only goal coming shorthanded.

Last weekend the Eagles opened ACHA and CCWHL play at Northern Michigan. RMU burnt out the goal lights of the Berry Event Center with 21-1 and 23-0 wins over NMU. Danielle McCutcheon (SR) picked up 6 goals and 4 assists for 10 points in the 21-1 win. The next night the Eagles continued their dominating performance against the Wildcats. McCutcheon picked up 15 points that included 7 goals and 8 assists. Goaltender Anna
Salvaggio (FR) picked up a shutout in her first collegiate game action in the 23-0 victory.

Matchup
Robert Morris (2-0-0-0 overall, league) is currently in a 3-way tie for 1st place with Grand Valley State and Michigan in the CCWHL with 4 pts. Lindenwood (4-0-0-1 overall, 1-0-0-1 league) is tied with Michigan State for 2nd in the league with 3 pts.

Last season LU finished with a record of 5-0-1 against RMU with a combined 15 goals for and 9 goals against. The Lady Lions last loss to the Eagles on 10/3/08, 0-3 at RMU.
In addition to regular season and league rivals, the two programs have a championship history. LU and RMU both participated in the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 ACHA Women’s DI National Championship games, RMU won the 2007 game and LU won the 2006, 2008, 2009 games. In 2010 RMU finished 3rd.

New Faces
The Lady Lions are a much different team from previous years. As part of the programs transition to the NCAA LU adds 6 freshman. Samantha Redick (FR) is the team’s leading scorer with 4 goals and leads in total points with 5. Allysson Arcibal (FR) is tied for second in points with 4 and ranks second on the team in assists with 3. Kelsey Talbot (FR) is tied for third in total points and ranked second in goals with 3.
