Yes, that's now. We are attempting (albiet perhaps futily) to push for a Cup.
Before this year, our payroll was $32 million. Year before that, $29 million. Year before that even less.
This team was very close to moving 3 years ago. Our fanbase are 60% bandwagoners, 35% hardcore fans, 5% body fat. We do not have the long-term fans the Oilers do, and while the owner may have more money, he has the team for sale at the moment.
To think the Canucks are a big-market team isn't the case. Yes, we are spending more money now, but so are a couple other teams that are a bit closer too (Ottawa is at $37 million last I heard, and they haven't resigned Havlat).
