did the same thing to my knees a few seasons back training for a long MTB race. early on my left knee gave out so i kept riding using more power from my right knee to compensate.. in the end i overworked both knees and paid teh price for weeks after..

never did that again let me tell ya.
it's pretty much the dumbest thing the human body does. my hip flexors compensated for each other years ago, they're still funky.
