I'm assuming that you are referring to the article and/or radio interview by Brassard.

Majority ownership is the McConnell family. The original owner was John H McConnell: John H. died in 2008. The team passed to his son John P.:

My opinion - the perception could easily be that John H was a much bigger hockey fan than John P. However, John H was retired and the economy (especially the steel industry) was not in the crapper three years ago. I think John P has had "bigger fish to fry" than the Columbus Blue Jackets over the past few years.

John H also appeared to have more charisma than John P. John P doesn't seem to like the spotlight at all.
