Regarding the importance of keeping a goon in check...it's a risk. Here's a perfect example...We were remarkably healthy in 2008-2009, but one of our most serous injuries occured in that playoff game against Washington where Brashear decided to take a run at Betts when he was vulnerable. The amazing coincidence is that this was one of the handful of games during that year where Orr wasn't dressed. I have to believe that there's a connection here.
And I think most people will agree that Boogy's contract sucks, flat out. At the same time, just as I don't hold Drury's production to the standard of his contract, I also don't do the same to Boogaard.
I'm not faulting Boogaard for his contract. I am faulting the GM for investing years and money for a goon — especially coming on the heels for the Brashear fiasco.
